Detector(s) used
Whites XLT
Went to cut my daughter's yard today, old part of evansville on north east side in old manufacturing area, across the street there is construction under way, I see an old friend Don Cladspell, hunting and he says "you should follow behind me, your detector goes deeper" well , after I cut the yard I followed through with my XLT, a few wheats and THIS, any ideas? this medallion,(it has no holes, or loops for a chain) says "Grand Army of the Republic" with dates 1861-1866 , most certainly Cival War era, but not a medal, not medalion, any ideas?

This is most certainly Post Civil War and came from, as you can see, a ribbon that was often worn at verteran orginization meeting. G.A.R. or Grand Army of the Republic was the Union CW Vet orginization and was most deffinitly post war, turn of the century.

Looks like its in pretty good condition for being dug!!!

No doubt post Civil War, but it looks like the bearer was a CW veteran. I can easily picture in my mind the CW veteran proudly marching in an Independance Day parade with that medal on his chest. Maybe not valuable in $$$ but very valuable nostalgia wise to any CW buff. Monty

I bet an old vet lived at your daughters lot. Keep looking, that may not be all the old fellow lost. Some real nice plates have come out of veterans' house sites. That sure is a nice find.
