I'm sorry to say I have no clue... But wow, that's kinda creepy and odd. Everyone will ask where you found this hairy spool.. Lol...

looks to thin to be standard telegraph....perhaps military telegraph....often just laid on the ground and abandoned...they used a buttload of it...just a guess

Could you post some photos of it at different angles, plus dimensions. :) Breezie

I think your item is, or are the parts, in the lower part of the phone on the right? HH

Definatly a high voltage copper-wound coil for something. Possibly a transformer but, likely an ignition coil as mentioned earlier.

More pics. Can even see colors in hair. The spool of hair is 5 inches long

looks like someone got there hair caught on it!lol. If thats real hair....they might have cut it off and wound it up on that spool to save, sale, or use for something. Are you sure its hair and not just real thin copper wire or some other kinda wire?

Ok so the strands are metal. I took one off and folded it/bent it to see if it holds the shape and it did.

Thank you BK, so you think it's a model T? That is pretty cool. I found it near a creek bed/swamp right off of Telegraph road. I also found a studebaker hubcap in the area.

Nice ID on the coil Broken Knee.
And nice hubcap! Incase you hadn't yet determined its application, I believe it is from a 1939-41 Champion, and it's apparently not easy to find an original one; Home
