Hello All! I had some friends over today checking out my yard, in Kirtland, Ohio, and our house was built in 1820. They found several old coins and different items in the yard. I would like to know if anyone knows what these two coins/tokens are, and what is their history? The one that is stamped 23, is aluminum, and the one stamped HILL, appears to be brass. Thank you for your help!

As far as the token on the right, I have found a few in my yard. They both had the city name on them so it was pretty easy to research them. They both were from 2 different towns close to mine. You'll have to do some research, like contacting historical societies of your county, or towns near you, or where you live. Also local libraries which maybe the best. Could be a restaurant with a bar, or just a bar.

I registered both of mine here.TokenCatalog.com. It will help other's in the future. Couldn't find this one there.

That one on the left may be a coat room tag?

Hope you find info on it. That's half the fun!!

It is amazing all the different tokens available back in the day! Every bar had their own - kind of neat if you were a collector back then! :)

I did a bit of searching for a saloon owned by somebody named Hill, starting in your town and expanding the search outward until I got a hit. There was a Frank Hill who had a saloon at 625 Lorain in Cleveland in 1887 and a William H. Hill had a saloon at 13 Noble (Street) in Cleveland from 1887 through 1892. There were others, but they were quite a bit later when tokens were usually not of this style. Not an absolute attribution, but I will run it by the guys who are working on a new edition of the Ohio trade token book and see what they think. What is the diameter of the token? And, as digger suggested, please consider posting pics on tokencatalog. Or, with your permission, I can do that.

The one on the left sort of looks like a religious medallion. Hard to tell for sure.
The Bar token is before my time!
I lived in Kirtland Hills at the old Nutting place in the early 60's. Loved that old house!!
It had high ceilings, and 5 fireplaces...and a ghost of a little girl...
