I found this rock in the woods, near the creek. It's lightweight, the outside is a sandy coating, animals have gnawed on it, and when a Hot pin is touched to the inner part it melts and gives off a burning plastic or coal-like smell.
It weighs around 8 pounds.
I can find nothing that looks like this rock anywhere in indiana.
Does anyone know what this rock is?

Maybe some kind of hardened resin or epoxy? I once visited a yardsale where this guy had big chunks of amber-colored "resin" next to his barn, the driveway, everywhere... I don't remember why but he gave me a big chunk of it to take home.

Noah D,
Thanks for the insight. It feels like a giant stone of hard wax, but the outside appears very much to be stone.
My first thought on it was that it may have been "Jet stone," traded forever ago by the Miami Indians or tribe prior to the Miami Indians.
But if it was jet stone, that's a long way to hike and gather it without anything than being done to the jet stone.
it is odd in its appearance, and I don't want to damage it any if it should be something odd for this area.
Much thanks!
