Hope somebody can help answer your question. It's cool!

There is a lot of debate about those buckle covers, (aka: buckle shields), but the current general consensus among collectors is that they are post war.

Creskol is correct. I for one have never found one on one of my CW sites. It's a nice find.

Btw .. it is my understanding that this is a horse bridle buckle.

And yes... Civil War related.

Nice looking find. The Horse Soldier Relics in Gettysburg, Penn. could help you out with dating this piece. It looks good to me. Is this made of brass? Best of luck to you.

Cool find either way

Seem's these are still "debatable" I'd love to dig one no matter the time-period it was from but would want it to be Civil War era of-course.

Ill take anything Brass .

This looks to be a Martingale. I'm not an authority on dating this particular one, but it looks as if it could be from the war period. As said, this is a great find regardless, but it would really be neat to find out that this came from a Cavalryman's horse. Let us know what you find out concerning this piece.

:laughing7::laughing7::laughing7: When one is unsure as to what the correct time period is, be sure to cover all the bases as this seller does! :laughing7::laughing7::laughing7:

At least he has them ID'd correctly as buckle covers.

Good going Creskol. You're right on the time period. Pre Civil War would date these anytime up until 1861 at the beginning of the war. Well Done.
