Found in CW Camp

It looks like a stirrup, but it really is a door hasp that use big staples to attach it.

Great I.D. Mud Hut, I've never seen this type of early door/gate latch before. :thumbsup:

Mud's idea is good but I also think it may very well be a bolt on metal step for a horse drawn wagon or such.

Mud is correct. Early, primitive door hasp or, in this case, a tool box latch.

I was on a hunt last year near Petersburg and one of these was dug. The site was turn of the 19th C up to about 1840.
