Found in Civil War Campsite...What is it?

Hey everybody. Wanted to get your opinions on what this is. I found it along with several other relics and want to have it IDed. I dont know, it kinda looks like a pot hanger or something but am not sure. The only thing I am pretty sure of is that it is from the Civil War Era or earlier. Thanks for your help.

Hi, I am pretty convinced this is a fuse hook. Using canons often required lit fuses to be at the ready, and although I cannot remember the exact right word, I remember canoniers would "hang" slow-burning fuses on hangers for use in firing.

My guess..........

Good call Quicksilver.. I believe you are right about this. It was found in the middle of a field at a campsite but this goes to show that the accumulation of years of iron and trash can be mixed in with the best preserved of sites..I will say my mind has been changed and have to agree with the hood latch. :wink:
