after cleaning it up, the back says extra quality. Here is a cleaned up picture of the button. Thanks for your help.

Not really sure, but here's an ebay listing with the same button. Looks like the seller didn't know where it came from either.

I have no idea about the veracity of the description or where the seller obtained his information, but he wants $775 for it. In his dreams probably.

'D' on civil war buttons (within the overall design) was often used to signify 'Dragoon' but I've never seen one like that with only the letter D, nor in such a stylised script. I suspect civilian and 'pseudo-livery' for a family name initial.

yup, we saw that and another for $15😂 we think it’s a railroad button of some sort
