I am looking for someone to identify what this large object is that I found about 100 feet off the beach in some rocks at a super low tide along the Central Coast of California.

Belt drive pulley?

luke_00, do you think it could be from a steam engine?
Very possible, either flywheel or belt pulley (as cudamark suggested) from an old engine, whether it be steam or hit-n-miss, both have similar components.

Early base for a beach umbrella? :laughing7:

I ask as there was a Steam ship that sank right offshore in the mid 1800's.
Does equipment on steamships have brakes? IDK.
I'm thinking like a winch, crane, other motors...

What's nagging at me is where you found it. I spoze it could as easily be from an old car or truck. :dontknow:

A shaft going through the central hole would be small diameter, much smaller than used in heavy equipment like flywheels or winch drums, I think.
