"Found" in a cash drawer at work!

I didn't wait on this particular customer but someone paid nearly $300.00 Friday in $5 1934 Silver Certificates. Another employee but the only $10 SC but I 'bought' the rest of the certificates from the drawer. I couldn't believe it. Felt kind of bad b/c it's possible the customer didn't know what she had and probably could have cashed them in for a bit more than face value. They were rolled up and wrinkled but still, they were a great Friday surprise!

Wow! What a stellar discovery. I never have that kind of luck. Congratulations.

Jackie:
Care to share with us the breakdown of those bills by series, Federal branch and whether or not they were STAR bills? You've got a small fortune there.
Congrats!!

Re: "Found" in a cash drawer at work!

Thanks for the posts --- I'm checking in during work.

I was recently reassigned from the Legal Dept to the Tax Collector's Office. I'm not bonded so don't have a cash drawer but I've put out an alert for the tellers to let me check theirs when they're not busy. I can only imagine what may pass thru my hands when they forget or get too busy or keep for themselves.

I'll be glad to take photos with my camera phone tonight. I don't expect them to be overly valuable except for what they are due to condition but it was fun finding them. I just like to collect coins and paper money older than 1970. Truthfully, I don't have a lot of experience or knowledge so I may have a little bit of value but not sure.

I saw prices ranging from face value up to 24 dollars

Re: "Found" in a cash drawer at work! (UPDATED WITH PHOTOS)

I hope you can see the photos well enough but used my camera phone.

Someone had asked about the Serial numbers; here's 5 for an example:
34A I16752854A
34C T13447876A
34D T17935302A
34C L54357774A
34D T01819989A

I had no starred bills, BTW.

I also purchased 14 1934 $10 bills

Blue seal silver certificates (1934 series A,B, C and D) are each worth about $12 in VF-20 condition.
What is the seal's color and series number for your $10s? Federal Reserve notes have a green seal and silver certs have a blue seal. If any of the 10's seals are brown, gold or yellow, you really have a 'keeper'.
