Wow, what a STRANGE place to find a gold nugget?! :icon_scratch:

Not so strange. That nugget could have come from a number of areas. Spaniards mined gold in South America and could have been with some poor soul who drowned if it was found in the 1715 area. The first American Gold Rush was in Dahlonega, Georgia in the 1830's and it was a keepsake till it was lost or it might have been on a charm bracelet, my grandmother had a 1/2 oz nugget on her charm bracelet that came from Alaska. If that nugget could talk, it'd probably have an interesting story.

If you find more nuggets in the same area then you'ld know they're nuggets :tongue3: you could be onto a patch  but what others said are much more likeley scenarios

on the contrary it is"very strange".no nuggets over here fl aurthor is the closest except for the "not so strange part".this is the west coast of fl.

Yeah, I haven't heard of many gold nuggets "at all" being found on the beaches either... even from shipwrecks... and especially on the West Coast!

In my opinion the nugget is jewelry gold, and man made.
You said it tested at 18 kt. and I see pin holes in the surface which would not be in a natural nugget. Someone may have made it and wore it on a chain etc. the ring broke off and it was lost in the water.
If your interested in learning about nuggets visit a site called goldbay, they have alot of information to read on man made nuggets and how to tell them from natural.
Hope this helps alittle, with the price of gold today it is very good find !!
