Found this and the nickel during a club hunt today, some of the members thought it might be a sword tip from the Civil War or 1812 era. It is threaded on the inside about to where the band is. Place was where an old apartment complex was torn down by Bayou Chico. Anyway I am clueless and figured someone on here could set me straight and id it for me

I think, I need new classes !!!! :o ::) .................. :D :D :D

Your item is a valve stem cap from an old car.

really wouldn't of though that for the opening if reopened is roughly 3/8-1/2 in diameter never seen a valve stem that big, my 1904 Oliver tractor isn't that large.

theaded inside and "knurled" design on the outside -- makes it easier to get a "grip" on to screw on and unscrew off --- why would a "sword tip " need to screw off ? and swords for the most part were flat shaped thus the sword tip part would be a kind of a "silt" oval shape not "round" -- a metal tire value cap for old style "big ballon" type tires they used to have long ago makes good sense to me --

Top of an old cigar holder?

I don't know what it is - but in response to your original post, I do not think it's a sword or bayonet scabbard tip.

Well thanks to all like I said I am clueless on what it is. Some there at the hunt thought it might be a sword tip protector? I personally have never seen this before or a protector. Searching on the internet also didn't reveal anything to match it with.
Looks good in my hm-mm box.

Definitely a valve stem cap. I have several...and I have the stems it fits too...they are much bigger around and longer than the typical valve stem you see today.

Valve stem cap from tractor.
