That's an old fashioned shirt neck button. They were quite popular in the late 1800s and early 1900s. I have my great-grandfather's. At least, that's what it looks like to me. It allowed a little flexibility in the collar spread. It was used to close the top "button" area of the shirt, around the collar.

It if was a cuff link, it would have a lever on one side to open up to prevent its slipping out of the cuff slit.

By the way, that's a great find! Keep it! -Noodle

Cool. I've always wondered what it might be. Thanks

Somebody, one day, opened up their shirt collar to cool off, and away it went, forever forgotten. Don't you wonder who it belonged to, especially in that place? Nice fine!

It's not going anywhere, my kids will probably find it when they clean up when I'm gone... lol

Hey, TC. Now you know. They are rather special to a person, like rings, etc. Some were engraved. Next time you see a closeup of an OLD picture, see if you can discern one.

Snook, put a note in the box with the button so your kids will have an answer! :) There's a special name for them, but my brain's gone. Collar cuffs? ??? -Noodle
