Weds. I was detecting a old 1800's homestead and found a birdband. I was just on a federal band reporting site and was filling in the information. I got to the spot where I was filling in the number on the band when it gave a error message that the band was extremely old and could I recheck the numbers and make sure I was filling in the correct numbers. Ha, pretty neat except when I got done it gave me info on the bird, saying it was a american black duck hatched in 1973 or older, male, originally tagged in Bellplain, NJ. 1973 does not seem that old to me (makes me feel old) but I'm sure the banding program isn't very old in my terms. When I get the certificate, I'll update the thread. I'm going to see if the home owner wants the band and certificate.
Iv'e only hunted on this site two times, each being short hunts (too cold for my liking) hopefully I will have some better finds in the future.

Thank you.

Cool! I remembered another member finding a bird band and getting the certificate, thought you might like the link.

Good luck to you and HH!
Thank you, I have caught Striped Bass in the Delaware Bay fishing that had tags in them from a tagging program to help researchers track there migration just like the bird program. They gave me a certificate and a hat (nice hat too) I remember one of the fish was tagged in the spring in the Hudson River in NY and grew three inches by the time I caught him in the fall of the same year he was tagged. She was 40 inches when they tagged her and 43 when I caught her.
That squiggly looking red line on that fishes belly is the tag.

That's cool TH!! I have found a few of those in Tenn. myself but never looked up any info. on the bird. HH, Q.

I never would have thought it, but I suppose there are a lot of these out there waiting to be found! Thanks for sharing! :icon_thumleft:
