I found this today at a stagecoach stop. As you can tell its approx. 5 inches long. It appears to be made of brass. There is nothing indicating that it has been broken. Any ideas??

My first thought is that it is a window latch of some sorts. Or maybe a some sort of tool.
I'm sure someone on here has seen one before.

The best I can come up with is an old cookstove lid lifter. Couldn't find a match but they come in many configurations. heres on from eBay. Good find Ace. Oops forgot the picture. There.

I'm taking a guess with a valve handle. Anyway, it's still a good find.

Looks like half of a pair of old crimping pliers to me.

Is there any wear to the face of the item pointed at below, as if perhaps a cutting edge had been used against it?

Good Call DCMatt,
I think your right. It probably is a variation of the pic you have.

Thanks for the input..

My thought also , a door latch or a latch off a cargo box. The hole might be
the pivot point & it looks like it held or latched into something with that 'tooth'
or protruding tab.
