Found this at an old swimming hole that was part of a park/zoo/amusement park that dates back to 1909 .? Found it at 6" by the foundation of the bath house.? Not sure what it is, but it reminds me of a saddle cinch.? It's solid brass and the bottom has a cap over it that will rotate.? No numbers or letters anywhere on it.? Monty

It is part of an amusement park ride. It's the part that you can't identify. OK OK It is a nice find and I can't help you. HH IDBurdie

Monty,

I found it with the ACE 250. My 2500 should be in the mail coming back today. Hopefully it will arrive by Saturday? Don't plan to polish it much as the part on the bottom is brittle. If it's a saddle cinch ring I have no idea how it got under there. There once was a floating boat house covering the area where it was found. Monty

Hey Monty horses take baths to. They wouldn't want the bridle to get wet.
The bottom part of the ring is puzzling. What would the purpose be for a harness ring?

I think i know what it is. You found it at the foundation of the old bath house, right? I think it is a fixture for hanging your towel on.

It's a cinch ring for a saddle I'm sure. It's sewn into the saddle attached to a short strap on the left side of a saddle. On the other side of the saddle is the long leather or heavy canvas cloth cinch strap. It goes under the horse's belly and through the brass ring where it's cinched tight to hold the saddle on. I looked at the local saddle shop and the cinch ring is almost identical. If the horse bathed at this bath house he was only 2' tall because at one time the area had a floating dock over it! No telling how it got there. The probably used horses and mules to build the thing in 1908 or it could have just been tossed under the dock to throw it away....or maybe the saddle burned in a fire they had at one time. There is a lot of evidence of a fire at sometime in the past. I'm satisfied I know what it is unless something definite comes along. Monty

Towel hanger for a woman as big as a horse? There is a compromise. I met you half way. We are both correct. ;D

I th0ought about a towel hanger too but there's no way to hook it to a wall unless part of it is missing. I suppose you could hang your towel on a saddle? Monty

? ? ? I don't know my horses. But the size of it, maybe pony rides?? ?Just one of many cool finds that will come from there I'm sure.? ? ?WTG!!? ? ? ?HH

? ? ? Just a thought, but maybe from a harness they use to put around an elephants head?

Don't know my elephants either.

Just some thoughts: if it were a towel hanger, I would expect that even if the part that attaches to the wall had broken off we would see wear on the straight section. Also I would expect the plating to be more worn in the center of the loop part (where the towel would rub). Lastly, the size seems really small (if I'm correct its about 2-1/4" tall). Judging by the wear I'd say it does seem like a couple of straps were attached to the loop. But I've already told you how much I know about harnesses (nothing). I'm just putting this out there for consideration. :)

:D I think Gypsyheart nailed it! Wow, it was probably custom made! $$$! I hadn't noticed the marking on the left side until I sharpened the photo. (Monty, sorry for messing with your photo. :) )

Every now and then you run across a little piece of information that you would rather not think about. And I think this would qualify as one of them. HH

MONTY!!!!!!!!!!!!! Way to go...I think you found a huge part of early history...It's the piece that connected the straps (until it Broke) that held KING KONG when he was on display at the amusement Park......lol Nice going. .....

Well, If I had found it in NYC I might agree. They had bears but no apes that I know of? Monty

This could also be why the park closed! Once she jumped in there was no water left for swimming.
