Found at my ancestors 1870's homestead

My family has been in this area since the 1870's. This area is is miles of woods and had previously been private property. It was bought out by an individual who I know and he gave me permission to dig my ancestors homestead. It was a 3 1/2 mile walk to the area and this is one item that I dug that I don't know what it is. It is 7 1/4 " long. I have been doing electrolysis on it and will need more time hooked to the battery charger. I plan on going back this winter to dig again. The area is polluted with rattlesnakes, but they don't bother me at all. The darn punkies that fly in your ears and eyes is what keeps me out of the woods in the summer.

lumbercamp,

It looks like the "hook" off of a cant hook for logging.

That's wonderful that you were allowed to go back to your "roots" so-to-speak.

Last summer I had a similar opportunity.

Out of curiosity, when you did this, did you feel an unsettling "calmness" at your
site when you were there. . . as if you were expected?

I'm not trying to be funny, I have my reasons for asking. . .

Take care,

It almost looks like a hook from a door lock.....

AU Seeker, It is not a hook from a cant hook. It is too small for that
Watercolor, I don't know about a calmness, but I did reflect on the items that I dug up and pictured them using them in every day life. I brought things home that I normally would have left in the woods such as files, square nails and lids to jars.

Something homemade to "pick" out debris from horse hooves?

(SWAG method)
