Found at Civil War location

Hello I am new to the forum and trying to ID this find but so far have been unsuccessful.

I found it in a location where I have found a good amount of civil war items.

I saw several more of these in someone's collection looked exactly the same but they did not know what it was either.

A relic shop owner thought it may be a finial from a knife. After seeing the others that looked exactly the same as mine I am not sure about that.

It appears to be brass...and it is solid not hollow and crushed flat.

A long shot, but the triangular cavity reminds me of a bayonet scabbard tip?

Thank you all for the ideas.

The 6 or so other ones I saw were shaped exactly the same and roughly the same length I didn't measure them but to the eye.

Maybe the little edge/line around it before it gets to the round end may have been slightly different that portion seemed a little crudely made on them all.

It is a solid piece not hollow as I mentioned. It's has not been flattened. It is designed exactly as you see it for some purpose

The pipe tool is an interesting idea I have not heard before. Can't find any other examples online of the item other than the ones I happened to see in his display case. Really puzzling.

I smoked a pipe for 34 years from 13 to 47 years of age till I quit smoking -- not a bayonet scabbard tip (would need to be hollow) not a chess piece non fully rounded bottom wouldn't sit right ) but the rounded end would "tamp" or push down the tobacco fine and the semi rounded bottom with a curved design would be excellent for scraping out matted burnt tobacco from the bowl of a pipe bowl -- look up old "antique brass pipe tamper / scrapers" most likely you will find some --remember many men smoked back them and cigarette papers were yet to be invented-(so your tobacco choices were pipe , cigar and chewing tobacco) many men simply used a flat headed "nail" as a tamp / scraper but some soldiers had very fancy ones.
