I found this button at a construction site in 2006, there were 3 farms on this corner that date to the 1830's. They were all part of the underground railroad in my area. There were a few civil war storecards found by other hunters, and several Michigan Military Academy buttons. I was told that when I dug this button that some soldiers replaced some of their regular issue uniform buttons, with this type of "prettier" button. It is said that they bought them from 'suttlers'. No civil war action in this area, but may have been one of the encampment areas used by Michigan Volunteers on their march to the war. Thanks for any replies......NGE
