Found at a colonial site, but it may not be that old. Part of an iron hinge?

This iron relic might be some sort of hinge, but I'm not sure how it was used. It 4 inches long and has a hole in one end and threads on the other end. There's wear in the hole, so that's why I'm thinking it's part of a hinge. Any guesses as to what it was used for and how old would be appreciated.

It appears to be a gate hing, either for a man gate or a road gate. The threaded end went through a pipe or wood. There would be two of them - one near the bottom of the pipe and one near the height of the gate. The gate would have have two 'pins' that would slide into the holes.
