Hi All.
Found this small two-piece button (back rusted off) at a site where I've found stuff as old as a 1749 Farthing. It's small (about 15mm wide) and convex. Probably copper. It looks like it has a central crest with a figure on either side, crossed swords in the center, a rising/setting sun above that, and an eagle with a scroll at the top. Similar to MD and ME militia buttons from mid-1800's but not quite. Any help would be greatly appreciated. For anybody who doesn't already know:
The "Sons of Veterans" organization is the yankee equivalent to the "Sons of Confederate Veterans" organization. As the use of "sons of" in the name implies, both of those organizations were founded in the late-1800s. Both are still in existence today.

The top button is a lot more sinister. The man on the left has a man's head in his hand. The kings head to be exact. Satan's head on the right. It's the button from a Jesuit robe. Get a mag. And you will see it. It's made to look like something else.

Thanks for the info- what did you mean by your last comment - it's made to look like something else? Also- if it depicts a man with the king's head - how old could this button be? Thanks again!

I couldn't tell you about the age. It would be a guess depending on where you live. It could be French or Spanish. You would need to research your area. They put there code on things that looks natural. And other things that you wouldn't be noticed. Hidden in plain sight.
Who would look think a button has the code on it.

I'm not following you. If it's a Jesuit button, what makes it sinister? Are you talking about a secret organization of some sort? I found the button in Mass. What is the code they put on "things that look natural?" Who are you talking about- I can handle it!

Compared to the other button. The two men are shaking hands. Yours show a man beheading the king and satan on the other side. It's done that way to scare the hell out of someone. That discourages the thieves from stealing their hidden treasure.

Also shows that there are traps to be avoided.

Do you (or does anyone else) have a picture or link to one of a cleaner version of this button? I don't see any severed heads...
