Detector(s) used
AT PRO and a BH 505 that I let friends and relatives I don't like use.
Primary Interest:
All Treasure Hunting
Very strange object found out in the middle of the woods yesterday.
I can't make heads or tails of it.
It is very solidly buried in the ground as I couldn't move it.
It is built of very heavy gauge steel or maybe cast iron.
At first it appears to be some type of wood stove because it has hinges and looks like a door was once on it.
It has what looks like a flue opening on the back but what is really weird is that it has a 1 inch pipe with a threaded connection at the top.
I suspect that I am hunting on old farmland.
Could it be a small forge for horse shoes and they were blowing air into it at the top through the 1 inch pipe?
Whatever it is, it served a purpose at one time.
Sorry for the poor pictures it was getting dark and I was in a rush to find my way back out of the woods.
Anyone have any ideas on what it was ? IMG_20150822_191945_227 (1).jpgIMG_20150822_191857_189.jpgIMG_20150822_191815_643.jpgIMG_20150822_191759_399.jpg

Looks like a cool wood stove to me. Maybe repurposed from an industrial boiler. Any moonshine operations around. I think other artifacts in the vicinity will shed more light on its use.

Are you close to Area 51? I think you found an old alien spacecraft from the 1940's...

you can still purchase kits today to convert propane tanks into small wood burning heat stoves. They are remarkably efficient space heaters for tents etc.

Wow that is cool!!
I think you nailed it bigfoot!
Any idea where I should look for these kits?
I have a large tank this would work well on.

ive seen them used with small 5 gal tanks even.my buddy has one in his rv.he has a very small flue also.it is only for small twigs and chunks from splitting regular firewood.a pinecone goes like 15 minutes.that sucker will cook you right out of that rv with wood no bigger than what you can break up in your hand.agreed bigger flue would allow hotter and better draft, but in a tent, small workshop etc throttling it down would be the way to go.as long as you can controll air inlet, flue size isnt really relevant.my opinion only,I live at 8000 ft. and this kinda thing is a necessary way of life up here.seen bout everything over 40 yrs.here

At first I thought Bigfoot had it but you may be on to something I hadn't even Thought about.
This object appears to be very old.
Jack the Legs Diamond was in this area and a gangster during the 20's and was well know for bootlegging during prohibition.
Jack Diamond was murdered in Albany, NY. where I am.
This could very well be the remains of a still.
I'm going to go back and search the area next weekend earlier in the day as when I found this it was getting dark.
