The 3 Merry Widows were Agnes, Mabel, & Beckie, and they invented the first 'reusable' condom in the late 1800's. Your token looks to be more modern than the late 1800's, and probably a fantasy 'cat house' token. Below is a pic of the Merry Widows tin I found several months ago. Hopefully the 'contents' held up better than the package! :laughing7: Breezie

maybe a movie chip/token or something! :icon_scratch:

TK, I think you're right. It could be a token to promote the movie. Judging by the clothes on the token, it could be from the original movie that came out in 1934 or it could be from the remake of 1952. Breezie

Great thought :icon_thumleft: I used that idea and found out the "Merry Widow Waltz" was very popular circa 1907 when the stage musical came to NYC - also apparently it was the source of all sorts of related mechandise-

The first Broadway production of The Merry Widow at The New Amsterdam Theatre (1907 - 416) delighted Americans with its romance and refined sensuality. When the dashing Donald Brian whirled Ethel Jackson around the stage in what became known as "The Merry Widow Waltz" ("I Love You So"), they ignited a cultural firestorm. Several companies toured the USA, a full length parody version ran profitably in New York, and the waltz itself was heard everywhere.

All sorts of unauthorized products tried to cash in on the show, releasing "Merry Widow" hats, cigars and corsets.

I think you're likely right with these time periods Breezie. I'm not feeling the woman's dress on the token is appropriate for 1907.
