Went detecting at a boat launch down the road that is very busy in the summer. Down where the boat ramp is there is a circle of grass where we got a bunch of hits that turned out to be a few pennies, a dime, beer cans, and then I got a screeching hit on coin again and dug up this. The first thing I saw was the round shinny top and thought it was a big old coin. When I got it out of the ground I had no idea what it was, I thought it might be some kind of water proof container that someone who was boating might have dropped. There was a plug in the bottom so I unscrewed it and saw there was a small zip lock bag with some whitish/brownish powder in it and instantly I knew what it was. I took a quick picture and then buried it right back where I found it. I just hope it was someone's pet and not someones loved one, and I hope I never find another one!!

how much does a pet urn

strange find. I never knew pet urn's existed

I didn't know either until I dug this up. Once I had an idea of what it might be I Googled "metal pet urn" and found a bunch of pictures that looked very similar to what I had found.

That's one of the strangest digs I've seen in a while... interesting, though. Glad you reburied it! :unhappysmiley:

You can imagine my excitement when I first saw the round shiny top and then my dismay when figured out what it was. I've been detecting for about a month and this was the first thing I dug up that wasn't a modern coin, can, piece of rusty iron, bullet case, or actual bullet. Square nails are the coolest thing I've found so far. I do have permission the detect at an early 1800's school house nearby, so fingers crossed that there are relics there.
