Found a new spot, what do you think? check out the road's name!!!

A friend of mine told me about this place so I drove out to check it. I need to find owners, they must have been at work today. Couldn't believe the roads name when I came out on the other end of it where the road sign was. Now tell me does this look like a nice area to hunt? Where would you begin, in the gravel bars or above in the cuts and wash outs leading into the creek? There isn,t any plowed ground near here, but there is several ditches or cuts that come out of the hills and cross the fields. I didn't go to far in and wont until I get permission. Anyway if you got some time give me some pointers. I am pretty sure I will get permission once I find the people. JYD

Being a creekwalker myself, I would start in the creek. Be sure though to check those washouts too. Especially if there is any rocks in them. With that much gravel, you could spend days checking it out and not get very far. I have found that if you find a certain area that you find more pieces than other areas, look real good in those areas, but don't discount any place just because you don't find something. Every time you get a good gullywasher of a rain, you should go back and look again. You would be suprised how much those bottoms change with a good rain!!

Not a good idea to post the road signs, for numerous reasons.
Still, looks a good place to hunt. I would wait for rain so it shows up the bright colours of flint, be much easier.

all good advice.i dont hunt the streams as much as i hunt fields,but when i start hunting a new stream i make sure i have plenty of time to hunt because i prefer to check it all out on the first run.bars,water,walls leading down to the banks.how you going to find the good spots if you dont look at everything??looks like a great spot.good luck.

Molly is right you might find company there when giving out the streets! When I found mine all the people I would show them to wanted to know where I found them.
About walking the creek if you get permission & you have the time, this is the way I do it it may not be the right way but hey at least I'm out there!
I walk a grid pattern bank to bank thru the water (when able) then move a couple of feet, it's the way that works best for me.
Sometimes you just can't wait 4 the rain!!

I would not wait for rain the place is ready to hunt.Its perfect with the water down. Walk everything till you find worked flint then,,back track upstream and look for hopefully heavier pieces not washed as far.You may find that one piece of bank that is kicking everything out.Bingo. If you do not find anything at all I would look for places off the creek with some high level ground.That creek looks like it will flash flood. Indians knew that as well.

Cool place. Be sure and get the owner's permission. If the creek makes a bend, I would live a little high up inside the bend. It's a better spot to defend and avoid flooding. Lots of rocks in the creek, but walk it and pay attention. Over time, everything washes down. Best of luck and keep us posted.

looks promising, but then again it may not hold one flake. I've wasted alot of time hunting creeks that looked like a sure thing but got skunked.
