Checked out a new site today and did a test run for a couple of hours. Some promising finds, but rough shape. 6 wheat pennies, mercury dime, some other coin in the shape of a dime, but might be British. Thought it was a Nickle Three Cent Piece, but lettering above her head does not match. :icon_scratch: I posted it under What Is It. Found my second Shield Nickle in a week, an 1899 V-nickle. Possibly a spoon ring, pair of cheap earings. Some clad and three pieces of magnet. :dontknow:
Weather is going to be nice the next few days, looking to head back.

You can never have enough trophies.
Thanks seger98

Garabaldi, Looks to me like you've found a Canadian five cent piece - silver not nickel -
young head Victoria - which should predate 1880 or so . Nice find (rough shape )
Argentium.

OOPS ! I think its more likely a 10 cent , just noticed its size relative to the merc-- that far
back Canadian coins were 925 (or sterling ) silver - content higher than U.S. coins so the size
was a touch smaller to compensate. Argentium.

All the Vickie's were silver, the edging looks like it's plated. :icon_scratch:

The soil must be extremely acidic or has a high electro-conductivity index...another day or so and you'd have coin shadows (ghosts)...

Nice finds Gary...

You must be vacationing in Florida or somewhere a lot warmer than around here. :icon_scratch:

I can't imagine trying to hunt around here right now. I would need a snow shovel just to find the grass and a blow torch to get through the frozen ground.

I give you a lot of credit for getting out there and getting some nice finds. Is the ground bare in Boston? If so, its amazing what a difference 20 miles make.

Hopefully, spring will arrive early this year !!

Take care and good luck with that new spot !!

Brian in MA

Brian, the ground here is just as frozen and snowy. I found a secret place. I'll give you a hint, there is a lot of water around the area and yes I have been freezing my butt off. I have been wearing a full body thermal under my clothing, snow mobile boots and gloves. A warm had etc... At times I have to stop to blow on my finger tips to get feeling back into them. The wind has been a howling. But NE winters cannot keep this detecting addict down. Reminds me of my old framing houses days during the cold NE winters.

You had a better day than me. That's for sure. Is it possible that stuff was burnt?

I do not believe that anything was burnt. I think its the tides, rocks and salt water that causes the damage throught the years.
