I was out for a hike in a remote area of southern NV looking for some petroglyphs (I've documented tens-of-thousands). While I was out exploring I came across a couple hills that were loaded with petrified wood. Everything from whole sections of logs to small pieces. This area was massive! I was curious to how much was under the dirt, too, so I started moving some dirt and there was a ton of it under the dirt within the hills. Here are a few pictures...enjoy!

p.s., I don't know why some of the pictures are rotated upside down, when they're right-side-up on my computer?

Congratulations. Now that you found a little petrified wood, what are you going to do with it?

I don’t know what part of Nevada you found this, but the Silver State has millions of tons of the stuff. The portion that graduates in quality beyond possible yard art, however, is small.

Time for more coffee.

I don't plan on doing anything with it...I have enough of it from coming across it over time :-) This was interesting to me because there was so much of it in a concentrated area...two hills just littered with it.

More coffee sounds like a great idea!

It IS interesting to come across that much in one place. Very cool, had my fill of coffee today.

I don't know why some of the pictures are rotated upside down,
when they're right-side-up on my computer?

When the file sizes are very large, the program seems to orient
them incorrectly.

It's easy to reduce the image size using PAINT. Taking them down
to 1000 pixels (on the longest side) generally gives the best results.
