I can’t tell any history, but I consider it to be a wonderful find. It appears to have been a large, heavy duty work knife. It doesn’t have the tapered tip of a fighting knife. I’d guess it’s main purpose was for butchering meat. Probably had a hickory handle. Nice and heavy for chopping through smaller bones. May have been used around the campfire as well.

The blade certainly resembles a chatillon. I’m not familiar with any having such a pronounced bolster/guard though some may have had them. I’ll bet it was an important part of every day life for its owner.
 

Found this yesterday at a river war of 1812 site .. Not 100 years old but it is old .. Who can tell me about it.
Looks cool, hope you find out. I wouldn’t butter my bread with it though 🤣👍
