im excited to say that the gentlemen im buying my home from has made me a great offer. he buys and sells many homes and has given me permission to detect the yards and land while they are getting fixed and ready to sell. so theres always new ones and all over. being a beginner i was thrilled to except and made a beline straight to the first house. im happy to report lots of change, a silver ring, 1970 match box car, and a cool 1939 penny with that wreath like thing on the backside and 1 500 lira!
Question though, im out growing my cheap metal detector. i payed like 80 bucks for it and i know that theres others that can do a hole of a lot more. so keeping in the kinda cheap range still what would anyone suggest. im talking 200-300 dollars. all suggestings are appreciated. i live in ohio, country where mostly farm land and railroads, barns etc will be detected. not alot of water or sand around.
thanks

In my opinion nothing beats a Bounty Hunter (Radio Shack) 3300 for that price range. I use one and I find that it gets very good depth and has many features only found on higher priced machines.

I would opt for a used Whites XLT or Mxt on Ebay or such. Just do your homework on ?ing the seller.

If you can find a use xlt in that range that would be great. If not I would consider a Garrett Ace 250. There's a lot of people using them and you can pick up a package deal around 212.00

hi, sounds like you are doing great. the funny penny is a wheatie. got a coin book? it is there. any ring is fun. most of all, learn what that magic stick is telling you. it's not always the tools but a lot about the mechanic! best to you. Bill

tesoro silver or the fisher f-2, the tesoro is deeper, the fisher comes with 2 coils and has visual ID along with tone ID

If I were as pretty as you, I could find a lot of new places to hunt too.

Maybe a White's Classic ID Pro.

As you can see, you'll get a lot of opinions. So I'll give you mine. In that price range start with a Whites Prism III or IV. They have excellent service. If you want to consider spending a little more, go with Whites M 6. It's a great workhorse machine and will satisfy you for a long time!!

If you know by now that you will enjoy this hobby for a while, I would step up to the big dogs. I have an Ace 250 as a backup to my Minelab Exlporer 2. Nothing compares to a Minelab explorer. If you could find a used one i would invest in that. Especially if there is a chance you might be relic hunting. It will be well worth it.
