This was an unexpected find, but I'll take it. This field had an old 1850's house and I've found a good number of buttons and relics, but it's been fairly clean of modern trash besides rifle shells. This was two inches under right at the edge of the field almost smack dab in the middle of where the house would have been.

The purse material had tons of layers and there was even a little scrap of paper between the folds with a little writing legible.

Nothing world shattering as far as dates or mintmarks, but fourteen wheat pennies in all which is the most wheat pennies I've found in one day! All Philadelphia mint and the dates are:

1929
1935
1938
1940
1941 x2
1944 x3
1945
1946 x3
1947

You never know what you're going to find!

Nice find. I wonder if they might have been stashed in a wall and forgotten about. Tore the house down and then you came along and found them. Congrats Mister.

I was thinking maybe a hunter was fishing around for shells and it slipped out of their pocket. The red color could have been to make it easier to find, but it obviously didn't help here. :laughing7:

All pennies , in the cute little red purse , has me thinking a little girl lost or hid that one .

I'm thinking hidden in her bedroom (or closet), overlooked when moving out, house torn down, and there you are 70 yrs or so later to find it.

That was a lot of money for a little kid in 1947 ($1.58 by today's rate). Lots of candy!
