While I was out detecting around some old foundations that used to be an old AG farm, I found a huge tree stump in a clump of trees and thought that would be something to take a closer look at. When I got up close I noticed that it was hollow. Looking down inside I saw a metal box, that's when I really started to get excited. I reached in and pulled out an army ammo box (new style), and after giving it a good shake I could tell there was something in it. When I opened it up there were all kinds of trinkets, some beads, and a few toys along with a notebook and paper explaining that it was one of those Geosearch cashes. To make a long story short, I signed the book with the explaination of finding it by accident, and then placed it back in the stump. It had been there for 2 years as for as I could tell by reading the entries, the latest entry being 5-1-07. It wasn't the type of cashe I was looking for, but it was still pretty neat.

Piggman, did you put anything inside the box for the next finder? Take something out, put something in. Geocache's can be anti-climatic when we're accustomed to finding real treasures. I bet it got your heart to pumping pretty hard, though, when you first saw the box in the tree stump!! Better luck next time. You have good instincts, looking around the old stump like you did.

Couldn't put nothing in except my metal detector or tools, and I wasn't feeling that generous. I didn't take anything either, I'll leave that for those that play that game.

Geo caching used to be fun. I used to get coins all the time out of them, and leave coins in return.

Nowadays they're mostly McJunque and superballs. :D

coluld of taken their stuff and left them an iou...lol

I tried caching some and I got no thrill out of it. I used to sell GPS when they first came out at a Bass Pro Shop near by and selling was more fun than lookin' for the caches. For some reason I liked finding pennies frozen in the cold ground.

Cool story.

I got my mom a gps and some stuff to start her own geocache like some goodies to go in it and a log book that I wrote in.....took it all over to her for mother's day and found out she already had a gps and she was so excited about hiding her little geocache grandma and her both that it was comical! She swears I have to be the first to find it and she is going out in BLM land on her horse a looooong ways! lol Then she turned around and gave me the gps back for MY mother's day present......not sure how that works but she did.....and her and grandma are both pretty wound up about the whole thing. Even if I only do a couple with mom and grandma it will be a fun thing and she has got some of the grandkids excited now too about being treasurehunters....who knows where it will lead! :D
