Went out of town today for a meeting. I went past this one small bank and decided that I would hit it on the way back home. While in the meeting all I could think about was the bank. Finally got released from the meeting after a couple of hours. I went straight to the bank and asked for halves. She said how many do you want? I said I will take all that you have figuring them not to have that many. She told me they had quite a few. I checked my money and all I had was $340.00 in cash. I bought that many and asked how many more they had. She told me they had about $600.00 to $700.00 more left. She said nobody ever buys them. She said they have been in the vault for along time and the ones she gave me were brought in a few weeks ago. I figured I was wasting my time with the lot she gave me.
I went home and got to wok on part of them. I opened my part up and pulled a few silver and what looks like a flaw. There is a perfect circle about 1/16th of an inch from the edge of the coin. The line goes right through the center of the LIBERTY and 2000. Not sure if it's worth anything but it's still cool.
My wife got home and went through her part. She pulled a few silver and what looks like a flaw as well. There is a line that looks like a mispour on the face of the coin. I know they stamp the coins, but this looks like a pouring flaw.... like maybe before they stamped it.

Anyway all together we pulled the two flaws, two 1964(one is nice and shiney), two 1967 and two 1968.

I can't wait to go back to the bank and buy them out of halves. It's a real small poor town that doesn't get alot of traffic. Should be some really good stuff in the rest of the rolls.

Re: Found a bank full of halves.

Does sound promising, especially those rolls that have been sitting for awhile.

The one with the line running around the rim sounds like one that has been in a slot machine for awhile.

The other flawed coin you have sounds like a lamination error. Could tell you more with some pics or scans. :)

Re: Found a bank full of halves.

Pics would definitely help. The one with the circle line sounds like it was done by a coin rolling machine. When I pick up my boxes quite a few of the ones on the end have this same line, which is caused by the machines that they use to roll halves.

Re: Found a bank full of halves.

Again, without pics, it's hard to tell, but to me it sounds like it's from a coin rolling machine. They can leave marks that look like something's wrong with the metal.

While in the meeting all I could think about was the bank.

I know the feeling. lol.

I also know that feeling of, "oh wow! there's a little bank I've never been to before. I wonder if they have any halves?" I took a new way home yesterday and drove past a bank I had never seen before. It was late, so it was closed, but I bet you all can guess where I'm going today.

Happy Hunting.

Re: Found a bank full of halves.

Finally went back to this bank today.

I bought every half they had in the bank and the lady told me she could order me a box if I wanted.

They had right over $600.00 left since my last visit. The lady told me that they pull any silver they found. Kinda put a damper on my spirits. I did $300.00 worth and found quite a few or so I thought. My wife got home and checked her $300.00 and hit the jackpot. It seemed like every other roll she opened was nothing but silver. There were a few she did that were mixed silver and bicentennial. Might have been someone's coin collection. When she got done the last roll had "Silver" written on the outside with red ink. I never noticed it until she pointed it out.

The total was:

1 - 1963
24 - 1964
3 - 1965
9 - 1966
63 - 1967
45 - 1968
34 - 1969

This was a great bank for silver! The people were also very friendly and helpful. Might have them order a box for me in the near future.

Great job SH. That is a load of silver. Congrats to your and the wife. Isn't it so much fun!!

Personally I like hitting the rolls in the vault. Around here I seem to get better results with those.

Keep hitting those bank vaults and buy every roll they will part with. Good luck & keep us posted on your future hunts.
