I opened a roll of nickels from the register at work this morning and pulled my first ever 1950-D! Man, those are tough to find. Nice coin, too. I grade it a solid AU - Still has a couple steps visible. I'm more of a half-dollar hunter, but I think I may add a box or two of nickels to my rotation every month and see if I can't finish my Jefferson nick album by the end of the year. I will have to find most of the war nicks again - I sold the ones I had a few years ago. Other than that, I need a 38-d, 38-s, 39-d, and 55 (don't know why I haven't been able to find one of those - not too rare). Anyone complete a set yet from circulation?

I have almost wrapped up the penny collection, going start on the Nickels. Looks like a few will be hard to find.

Excellent Find!!!

I am closed to finishing, still missing 38D, 38S, 1943D, 1944D, 1950D. All others found in the wild.

It took me a long time to find a 1955 despite a mintage of over 7 million and a ratio of 1 Philly to 11 Denvers minted, I probably found 50-60 1955D nickels before my first 1955, since then I have found another 3.

great find! I found 2 50D's myself last year and the first one I found last Oct is a really nice one like yours.

I haven't searched any nic's since Jan but maybe I'll get a box or two this month - esp since my half boxes haven't been producing much lately.

Awesome! I am still looking for a '50D to finish my collection. It is the only one I need. I just found my first '39D a couple weeks ago. I have been through 400,000 nickels so far.

Yinzi50,

Wow... you did it in a month. Impressive! About how many war nicks did you pull out of those boxes? Did you ever finish the Franklin set?

what a find!!!

I search nickels, about 3-4 boxes a month... I still need 38d 38s 39d and 50d for my collection, of course, all the hard ones. What's so uncommon about the 1955?

low mintage, but I do have 1 '55. I am nowhere close to finishing the set as I search nickels only in small amounts.

I've completed 2 sets from circulation.

Sets 3 and 4 - missing 1938-S and 1950-D
Sets 5 through 8 - missing 1938-S, 1939-D, and 1950-D
Sets 9 through 16 - missing 1938-S, 1939-D, 1943-D, and 1950-D

After two years, I was able to find 53 and 56, but still no 55. I cheated by buying an uncirculated 55 from ebay

Very nice find BB.

Thank you for teaching me something. As much as I hate to admit it, at the expense of making myself look foolish in reference to my previous post about nickles and finding anything minted with a D or S prior to 1964 I guess maybe looking at the back would help to know thats where the mint mark is at. I feel like a jackass. :BangHead: :angry5: :dontknow:

I guess further research never hurts.
