I got out this morning between 7:00 and 8:00 today and hunted one of my favorite sites. It seems like I can always find something decent there. There is a lot of trash in this area and I have to use a small coil to hunt it. I found an assortment of trash that I will not post but I found three keepers. The first thing I dug was the badge that has RING MARSHAL etched on it. The second item was the small key. The third was a pocket watch. The second picture is of three other badges that I had found previously on the property. The one on the left reads AWARDING COMMITTEE, the one in the middle reads GATE KEEPER, and the one on the right reads DIRECTOR. Can anyone give me some information as to what these badges were used for? I would greatly appreciate it. The last picture is some other relics that I found on the property. Thanks for looking.

But what are the duties of a Ring Marshal ? this is a title I have never seen before, maybe I just don't get out enough. HH

I was going to ask the same question. Nice finds by the way :icon_thumleft:.

Sounds like Livestock show badges, maybe state fair, or County fair its the kind of badges the officials would wear.
very nice finds.

Those are cool finds. My guess is that were used for equestrian events. They would have been used to designated positions. I used to compete in 4-H horse shows growing up and Ring Master would set up the next horses for the next event. That's my best guess.

I swear I'm having Deja view, didn't someone recently post some similar finds? Really cool stuff, I'd research old Cowboy related rodeo sites, or anything Western related.
Or just stare at their beauty. Kudos.

"Badges-We don't need no stinking badges!!!". We need to just hunt CW relics. I think the county fair horse show over 100+ years ago is a good guess.
One of those badges will look nice with the little gold cufflink you found as we hunted for CW relics today. It looks as old or older than the badges. WTG.

I know you are right. I am sure you saw the judges wearing those badges 100+ years ago when you and your mule attended the horse show.

Man, its really rare to find that many badges in one hunt, :icon_scratch: They musta been "patrolling" that area hard ;D  Really cool finds my friend :icon_thumleft: :icon_thumleft:

NICE FINDS, THE BADGES COULD COME FROM AN OLD CIRCUS GROUNDS, AND COULD HAVE BEEN CALLED RING MARSHALL INSTEAD OF RING MASTER BACK THEN. CAT.....

That sounds like a plausible idea.
Thanks catbird
