So over the winter I spent my spare time poring over local history and internet links, and was fortunate enough to come across an old, 1795 road map of my town. I noticed the roads on that map are significantly dissimilar from the roads as they stand today. And several of the old roads ran through, what is today, just empty forest.
So now I have some good leads on places to detect and for the past 3 days I've been detecting about a one acre piece of an enormous field. The first day I found the 1749 Georgius II Rex coin which I already posted about, and yesterday and today I found several nice things.
Also, I speculated in my last post that my sister might be hooked now (she's using my old detector) and sure enough I think she is- she came along again today even though it was cold outside, lol. She found this weird little thing which I'd be grateful if anyone could identify it:
So here are my finds, minus the junk:
The pewter spoon head is so malleable that I actually think it is mostly lead. Did they make all-lead spoons back then?
I found the 2 barber dimes (1897, 1902) and a 1874 silver Canadian nickel, an 1884 V nickel, and what I thought for sure was another big copper at first, but honestly after looking at it I'm not sure what the heck it was used for. It has a lot of dings, from a hammer maybe.
I love the monogrammed "A" piece of silver jewelry, I think it was a pin, as it has nubs on the back where the workings were attached.
I also like the old watch winder, and several old buttons.
Thanks for looking, and best of luck to all.
