It was an invigorating 32 degrees today, so I sneaked a 90 minute dig at a frozen park today. Always wear black when detecting in the cold. I did not excavate any precious metals today, but had a good time. I found a crucifix pendant in the middle of a soccer/baseball field, about 6" down. When I removed it from the plug, I saw that it was all wrapped up in a chain, so I planned on cleaning and straightening it at home. But, the more I scubbed away the dirt, the more the chain stayed put. I then realized that it was molded that way from the factory. I saw the detail of the rose flower on top and the lock in the middle. Unusual, as I have dug many crosses/crucifixes and never seen this design. I also found a 1944 Wheatie, a sports ball needle, and a large (man's?) copper ring. Ring #5 this month so far. Thanks for looking, Happy (freezing) Hunting out there this winter! Sub
