Landowners son found this button 10 years ago...any ideas. Button not in best shape but eagle is flying right to left. Shield is towards bottom in center. Sorry about pic quality...will try to get better pic. Area has been occupied since early 1800's.

Thanks Bramblefind for the info. Looks like Foster made alot of military items.

The button is a version of the Illinois state seal. George Foster began selling military goods in 1873 or 1874. In 1892 They began advertising military clothing and other items for the Army, National guard and other uniformed associations. The company lasted until at least 1904. From the style of the button I think it dates 1900 or later. I'm not 100% sure on that though

It's the lower of the 2. I can see the eagle on the one posted has the longer neck. Oops. I guess I should start reading all the posts and links as well.
