I found this peculiar thing on a river beach... It looks like a tooth, but personally, I'm not convinced it is. I think it's just a weird conglomerate or ordinary rock that just happens to look like a tooth. It's hard to make out in the photo, but the "white" part really looks more like a rock than a fossil... What do you think?

That' right up there with the weirdest things I've seen. I would think right away it's a tooth, but why would the tip be black? Cool find if nothing else.:icon_thumleft:

I have found lots of fossilized teeth over the years ... If I saw that laying on the ground , I would think I had another one ..........BUT , something does not look right about it ......Maybe some experts will chime in .... Nice , whatever it is ...

To me it looks like the top is quartz and the bottom is schist. Certainly a strange formation though...

Yep just a water washed specimen of quartz and a softer host rock.

I tend to agree with those who say it's an ordinary rock and not a fossil. Anyway, this was found in the Philadelphia area...

A specimen with quartz from my area that had visible gold in it in a couple of spots (ugly to the unknowing):

It's alluvial quartz and basalt

I agree that it looks like a basalt and quartz specimen. I understand that the word alluvial describes the type of soil that specimen may have been recovered from, I just wanted to make that clear. Here's a basalt specimen for comparison:
