Fort St. Phillip info

Anyone know anything about Fort St. Philip on the Mississippi river? I know there was a week long bombardment there, and a battle during the war of 1812, I also know there is Fort Jackson across the river which was the scene of a civil war battle. Fort Jackson is a national historic site, which I'm assuming means no detectors on the grounds, but there is a lot of open ground nearby. I haven't found much on the status of Fort St. Philip though. And it seems to only be accessible by boat. I'd really love to hunt that area, but I'm going to need a friend with a boat first, so for now, it's research time.

Any info anyone has, or leads where I can find more myself would really be appreciated.

Isolate each war, find out who the generals were and the officers beneath them, then look for any transcriptions of diaries, order dispatches, and maps in the local, state, and federal archives. Libraries might carry some things as well. Do you have a local historical society in your area? Try asking them, that is who I deal with here, and now through them, I have access to copies of Gen. Montgomery's personal papers, orders and maps.
