Got out to do some hunting on Thursday. It turned out that DorkFish was going to the same place. We both came away with some nice pieces. The first pic is what I found. I found a piece of pottery with a lug handle on it. Second item is a pretty nice trigger bone awl.The long bone bead has one of the ends snapped off.The 3 small ones are in good shape. The second pic is of a broken whistle. It still has one complete hole in it.Part of another one can been seen in the break at the bottom. I had to try it.....it still works. Thanks for looking.

God, I Love that site. You and Steve have found some killer stuff. Have you found any drilled teeth, such as the ones Steve has found? I am just amazed at the stuff that site produces. Good stuff. John

Joe does have a couple of killer Drilled Teeth. He even found a double drilled tooth similar to the one in my avatar.

Joe, I figured that whistle would still blow. Very cool.

Unfortunately, my computer is acting up again and it won't recognize my cameras video card so I can't post my pics of my finds. Joe got me on Beads since I didn't find a one, but I got him on points since I found 3 and I also found a decent Cannel Coal Pendant and a peice of worked Deer Antler. As soon as I can get the pics on I will.

Great finds buddy!!!

i agree FF, i love that site! such a diversity of materials and tools...i always look forward to seeing finds from there...thanks for the pics! :icon_pirat:

tom, isn't that you oon the right, in your younger years? :icon_pirat:

That's some awesome finds PaleoJoe :o, Makes me wonder how much of if any I missed of that type of artifact when I'm looking so hard for artifacts made from lithic material. :-\

Joe where do you live? I never find anything gut stone, flint pottery shards. The soil here destroys all non lithics. Really jealous of your finds; but thanks for sharing those with us

Glimerman, I live in Southern Ohio.Right over the river from Kentucky,& next to West virginia. There are Fort Ancient sites in all 3 states. The amount of pottery, bone & shell at these sites in amazing. It just takes a keen eye to find it.

Joe, why are they called "ft.ancient"?

Ft Ancient is the culture affiliation here in Ohio. In the south it is refered to as Mississippian. It it usually dated from 950 to 1650 AD on most of our sites here and a couple even have historic items on them like Trade Beads so they had white contact.

The old computer acting up excuse again, sounds like Joe snowed you again to me ;D Great finds Joe
Don

Don, yeah he did smoke me again, though I did find a really nice Pendant. I also found two killers on the way to work yesterday in a field they just turned and had some rain on. It's a really sandy field and they turned it deeper then normal. As soon as I get the computer fixed I'll be posting my pics.

By the way, the beans are out at Goldcamp so hopefully they will be plowing the stubble under real soon.
