Just a point of interest. I had a sudden problem with my DFX. Went to +95 & two solid vertical bars on the signagraph & was screaming out loud. Pulled battery pack to reset to default settings. Zip!! Same toruble, so I called Whites & they said to send it in. The service dept called me to say that the search coil was bad. They said that itappeared to have gotten hot( like in the sun under glass) & the wires in the coil appeared to sag which ruins the search coil. They said that a probable cause is the machine sitting in the back seat of the truck with the sun shining in through the glass which can super heat the coil & damage it. I told them that they were probably right because that is where I carry my machine all the time.

They replaced the coil at no charge & my machine will be back home on Monday. I know I am not the only one to carry their machine in the truck like that where it get can so hot. Just beware! Could save you some trouble in the future.

It is 7 PM here on July 15th & it is still 100 degrees with a steady 25 MPH wind. Has been like that all day, so take a hint & just doin't be guilty of doing stupid stuff like I did.

Many thanks to Dave at White's for the info & the repair.

Thanks for the heads up, Spotz. I'm glad to hear they were so nice about repairing it.

Spotz, that's a good pointer especially the way the summer is going. I'm still guilty of leaving the detector in the jeep but always cover it with a light colored blanket, #1 to keep the sun off it and #2 to keep prying eyes off it. Toss a few grandkids toys alongside it and instant urban camoflauge. ;)

Thanks for the info (and the selfless admission of stupidity) Spotz. I've had my MXT as a constant backseat companion in my pick-up since January. Wondered about the cold too, here in the land of extremes. We've been near 100 for a couple of weeks now with no let up, and it's probably 150 degrees in the truck. Gotta start leaving my baby at home I guess :'(. Been too busy to use it anyhow. Glad you had a positive experience with Whites. Good luck when you get her back~CO2 ;D

Hey guys! The incident won't make me keep it at home. In fact, I have my QXT ( back up) in there now, I just put it on the floor & covered it up as usual, but not anyplace the sun can shine on it through the glass for an extended period of time. I won't leave it in there for extended periods of time either but I still won't leave home without it. I'll just be a lot more mindful of the heat. It's been staying about 95 to 99 degrees here for the last three weeks. Headed for the Oregon Coast beaches for the 24th to the 30th. Have to be prepared. Hopefully, this trip will be much better than Wyoming last week. Only got to detect for 20 minutes on the whole 5 day trip & only found a hot wheels car & some old harness buckels.

I have sure found out how sweet the DFX is after having to use my QXT for the past couple of days. I really am spoiled by the DFX. Can't hardley get along without it. I've found several rings, silver & gold lately & about a one pound coffee can of clad over the last six weeks, but it feels to me like I'm in a slump. It hasn't been bad hunting, but nothing really good or old. Know what I mean? They burned the old 1870's house a couple of weeks ago & I have been on the site a couple of times in the last week. I even took a rake out there (95+ degrees) & cleaned up under the spot where the front porch was & the entire East side of the foundation. Thought I was playing it smart. All my efforts from the raking job resulted in about two doxen well burried beer bolltle caps so far.
LOL, Spotz
