Form and preform

[Older The Better]

I found these pieces years apart one on the river and one up on a bluff. I didn’t realize how similar they were till I put them together in a display, it’s a good example of preform and finished point
The preform I’ve got as a north blade and the point is a grand which is in the hopewell Snyder’s cluster.

Nice finds. The one on the right would have been a nice point, to bad it broke. The one on the left, I would call a preform or quarry blank. I would expect a north blade to have more refinement.

I was going off of the overstreet description, calling north blades preforms for Snyder’s types, that’s not to say they couldn’t also be blades in themselves. I’ve never really considered quarry blanks different from preforms but I can see what you mean, it is lacking in any fine edge work.
