Hello again:

Forgot this thing on my last post. It looks like a valve stem cover. I saw some that look like it but not exactly and they were on a Model T Ford. You can't see it on the picture but the engraving on there is "Schrader" and below that "Made in USA". They made lots of these so it could be from anything, even a bicycle.

Thanks for looking,

Foiled Again

Wow, you guys are great detectives, or else been around long enough
to know these things.

Hey, I LOVE that name "Foiled Again" - I'm sure that evolved
from your treasure-hunting frustrations!

Thanks for the responses to this post from trusty, Charlie P., Mojjax and UncleVinnys. Took another look at that thing and Charlie P. is correct. The ribbed end will unscrew but it is going to take some force to get that cap off. Not going to happen without some kind of mechanical aid for sure. I will pop it in a vice tomorrow and take it apart.
There is nothing inside of the tube as mojjax suggests. Likely that there was at one time something like a guage in there but it is long gone now.
As for my nick on Treasurenet (Foiled Again), it came to my because of the tendency of the DFX to be fooled by small pieces of foil right on the surface, identifying them as good stuff 3 or 4 inches deep. I was fooled by that literally hundreds of time before I learned to use tone ID and ignore the display. Besides the fact that it won't go very deep and is useless in wet freshwater beach sand, this is the biggest problem with the DFX. Thus the name Foiled Again UncleVinnys. I must have been really p#ssed off at my machine when I first registered here.

Happy hunting,

Foiled Again
