Forged/wrought 18th century tool

I found this today at a colonial sote. It's 9.5 inches long and 7.5 inches tall and heavy. Possible blacksmith tool? Thanks

Looks like a pick or pick ax that wasn't completed.

Looks like the makings of an old pickaroon/hookaroon to me.

Been thinking about this one a bit. If I had to guess, I'd say it might well have come out of a production-type forging factory, and that this device was used to punch a hole into red-hot metal. Looks like it's designed for making square holes for accepting carriage bolt heads or maybe square nuts. The size of the hole would depend on how far the point was inserted into the metal.

...But just guessing.

Bottom half of a bearing that would be driven into a frame of wood to support a shaft,one on each side. Grinding stone, well windlass, etc? Tony
