for the quarter crhs...

Re: for the quarter crh's...

I put it in perspective: for dimes, I rim search for 2 things:
1. Silver
2. New Rims get pulled and date checked for Proofs (never found any yet) or 2009s (low mintage year). If I don't pull a new Cupronickel rim, I dont' mind...if I miss a 2009 because it isn't a new rim it probably isn't in good enough condition to be considered collectable years down the road.

In quarters, I kinda do the same thing, but for different reasons:
1. Silver
2. New Rims for the ATB Quarters and Proofs. I'm saving the ATBs for my grandmother, and proofs are just awesome to find (found a 2001 North Carolina, which I sent to my grandmother because she collected the State/Terr quarters). When I dump the bag out on my table before I search I keep an eye out for some of the known errors like the WI 3 leaf...but if I miss some of the WIs because they don't have great new rims...meh.

Re: for the quarter crh's...

Do you/did you search for AU or BU Delawares or Pennsylvanias? I was reading in my coin errors book that because of the craze over the state quarter program when it came out, a lot of quarters were taken out of circulation to make special collections, and people were at some time paying $50 for a roll of AU Pennsylvania quarters, although I don't know if this happens anymore.

Nope. I didn't start CRH until a few months ago. I do find some odd things when looking for new rims. I find a lot of the later state quarters in my area as well as the Territories (obviously), but I also find a lot of Connecticut and Idaho...

Re: for the quarter crh's...

quartersd are not worth it in my opinion.

Re: for the quarter crh's...

None of the state quarters were minted in low quantities (some states had over a billion minted), and everybody and their grandmother saved or collected them, so they'll never be rare. The possible exception is the 1999 silver proof versions, which apparently had a low mintage, but 1999 silver proof sets can still be found for reasonable prices.

If anybody is paying lots of money for state quarters, it's only the tickle-me-elmo effect. The exception is some of the rare varieties, doubled dies, etc. which are genuinely valuable.

Anyhow, half the state quarters are downright stupid looking. Have you seen Idaho? It looks like a stoned pigeon being held at gunpoint. So far, the ATB quarters are a lot nicer.

That's why I collect the Idaho state quarters. I'm a huge fan of the Stoned Pigeons. Have you heard their new album? Rockin'!
