It looks like you may have a double die on the edge of the rim. What is the date and can you move the pic to the right so I can see the whole date too? I love indians and have every needed book on errors for them.
 

You can move the picture to the right if you go all the way to the bottom and use the scroll thing, anyway it is an 1898, I dont believe it to be a doubled die, I have never seen an indian head with denticles pointed like that but what it may be is some type of marker so they know where to put the date?? I did send a picture to rick snow to get his opinion. thanks for the info and being that you have all the books on the varieties I am going to put up some repunched dates, etc to see if maybe you can identify the snow numbers for me. I just got a collection of like 35 indian heads in unbelievable condition, au-ms for most including the 1908-S, I think the whole collection will go on ebay as one lot, dont know yet. Thanks again for the help!!
