Hi all dug these buttons at mostly Colonial Sites 1780s - 1850ish. A couple I know for the most part what they are but have not seen any to confirm for sure. First one is in great shape but pic does it no justice, Its a one piece of the Royal Canadian Volunteers -1794- disbanded in 1802 believe it is an officers button of the second battalion, it has no back mark - I just have never seen one. The last one I think is from the Provincial Marines of Canada - again Iam guessing from around 1800. Just have ot seen one to be sure. The other ones I have no clue but pretty sure they are british except the one with the stars circling it not sure if this is just an ornate button. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for looking. Here are the pics. Are you in Canada? That pewter is the most interesting, and looks to have a Loyalist look to it. No makers mark right? Can you make out the letters? That definitely has some potential and you should post some better pics of both the front and back.

I'm Guess R.C.V is Royal Canadian Volunteers?

The 'Urn' button is civilian, British circa 1800.

Lion Livery Button, plus a few more Civvy ones. IP has pointed out the best one, I've never seen it.

My first guess is it's probably Canadian 1790s, and if not, British militia type, but the crude style of it does make me question if it could be Loyalist.... and if it was you can bet it would be a VERY good one.

It doesn't look British Militia, so game on...

Doesn't to me either and why my first guess is Canadian. Even though being so crude makes me think Loyalist the rarity is why I think British as my 2nd guess.

IP and Crusador

DSCF1153 (640x361) (2).webpDSC01447 (640x427).webpIron Patch and Crusador - thanks with the I.D help on the buttons, curious are the Canadian Volunteer buttons common? I have seen a few pewter ones down this way but no officer buttons, as well the Provincial Marines button posted is it common? I peg the date to around 1800. Here is a pic of the Loyalist button, its in rough shape but as you know those pewter ones sometimes come out of the farm fields in messy shape. At first glance I would say the letters on it would be C E or C F but the C could be a G Im just not sure. Once again thanks - you guys definitely know your stuff.

The button I said was a Canadian Volunteer was a pure guess based on the letters & I found no others like it on line, so I'm not sure how rare it is, specially as I might be wrong.
I think its worth asking IP for Don Troiani email & trying him on the pewter type.

Yeah that's the place to go for the pewter. chainshot@aol.com

I would say the RCV is something British being so different than the Canadian Volunteers button.
