I had a great day today. Got out about 11am and went to detect at a house built in 1900. I gridded the entire front yard and side yard. I found a dime and a zincoln penny and that was it. There was a small patch of woods next to the side yard so I thought what the heck and hit it. I found this shortly after I started swinging in the woods.

That was all I found there. At this point I'm starting to get hungry and my back was starting to hurt. Since I planned to get out tomorrow I thought I would call it a day and go fix something to eat at home. This is where the day got good. About 1/10th of a mile from my house sits a lovely brick home up high on a hill. I ride by this place every day at least twice. I've always said "Lord, I would love to hunt around that house" but had never stopped to ask for permission. Well today I decided what the heck and stopped. Met the owners who generously gave me carte blanche to hunt anywhere on their property. The husband said I would have to spit a treasure if I found one.

I decided to start in the front yard and picked the right side. My first good signal, right next to the sidewalk had these hidden in the ground. A 1914 Barber half dollar and four wheat pennies.

Now the back of the Barber half dollar is pretty smooth, but I don't care at all. I was ecstatic to have found a coin spill that wasn't modern coins.

My next good target was this little sweetheart, a 1914 Barber dime.

And finally when my back wouldn't let me swing anymore I found this mercury dime. I've not cleaned it up but it's got some damage to the front. I couldn't get a date off of it.

These are silver coins #17-20 FTY

Hope everyone is able to get tomorrow and that ya'll have a fantastic day. Thanks for looking and HH

I had a chance to clean these up this morning. The four wheat pennies found in the same hole as the Barber half were dated
1915-d, 1939-d, 1941, and 1946. So this tells me the half didn't hit the ground till at least 1946?

Did you show the owners? They would probably be impressed, I had an owner that went and got his own metal detector and we learned his machine together. Needless to say he is now embedded in the hobby and I still hunt his property.

Way to go, I would love to find a spill like that.

Wow great day buddy! Congrats on a great day

Way to Go Jay!!! Eat your heart out Smittyman. ..lol..

pretty sweet day, congrats on the silvers. you Carolina boys have been killing the silvers

4 silvers with one being a half is a good day in anyone's book. Congrats.

Oh by the way, i told you , you were going to find 6 silvers today..That half counts as 3 so i was right..lol

As I sit on my couch getting fatter, drinking yet another beer while my eyes hurt from looking at old maps, I feel a knot in my gut. It's jealousy...and maybe my tight belt.

Just kidding. Congrats on the big day and whatta half!

Happy hunting

I only got to hunt 1/2 of the front yard and the tiny side yard. There is a LOT of property left to check out there. I didn't even get into the back yard at all. I WILL be back tomorrow and hope I can pull a few more goodies. This property was a 60 acre dairy farm back in the 30s. The old barn is still there. To say I'm excited to get back over there is an understatement.

Heck ya Beez!!:headbang: Great day hunting for you, worn or not that barber half is great!!, ive had homes like that where ya keep saying "man I wish" and then ya finally get up the nerve and they are nice as pie!

Congrats!!

Very nice finds J. Tell the owner? Last time I did that they wanted it. Stopped that unless it was made clear in beginning. Keep it up and you will top my 126 year count HH..

Great Silver day! Big congrats Beez. We finally have a warming trend 40s-50s over the next few days, watching the snow melt, maybe in another week!!

Hey John,

The home owner said I could have whatever I found, but that if I hit a mason jar full of gold we'd have to split that. I found a couple interesting items that I could not identify and he seemed to like them so I made him take them. I wish I had remembered to get a pic of the one item. I know it would have been identified quickly on here. The spring and fall are my time of year for hunting. My old body just does not like the heat anymore so I am very limited in the summer. Often I'm hunting by 6am and on the way home by 9am. I will be thrilled to hit my much more modest goal this year of 75 silvers.

Man jeeez ma beeez ! , whats not to luv about all those beauties .
Have yA seen any signs of a stash of 4.8 mill in gold bars in your area of NC ?
Not sure if it has been recovered . :dontknow:

8-)
