Hi all,

I couldn't resist going back to that park again so I went again this afternoon with my son and the dog to swing the coil for a couple more hours. I couldn't help thinking that if I could find that big ole watch in the field there's got to be a ring somewhere. After about 1.5 hours searching the same area as yesterday, I came up with about $2 more in clad, a car key and another ring! It was silver..but hey I'll take it anyway!

It was a bit chilly and the wind was blowing, but the sun was out and it was really a nice day over all..if my hand didn't begin to hurt (I think it's a bit arthritic) I may have stayed another hour.

Some of you know about my "quest" for a gold ring..I've never found a true gold one yet (just a gold filled) and if I never find one that's the way it goes, but I made kind of a challenge to myself at the beginning of the year to at least try and find one..it's exciting just to know there's always a small chance I'll come home with one..until then I'm out there having the time of my life with this hobby of mine.

If anyone knows about rings, the only thing engraved on the inside of the band is the word "Community".

Nice spoon ring! "Community" is one of the Oneida Silver marks.

Your ring is made from a piece of silverware, it's a pattern made by "Oneida Community", the pattern itself is called "silver Artistry", and was originally made in 1965. It is a moderately collectible pattern. You can thank my wife she collects silverware like I MD, it's her collecting hobby. Very cool find, some of those old flatware rings go for decent money, especially if the ring maker left his mark too. really pretty pattern.

Nice haul there nat!!Just keep diggin pull tab sigs and the gold will come.HH

LOL

Love Love Love it!
I honestly laughed out loud at seeing the "spoon ring" & kinda sorta weeped finding out an item that I wore when I was soooooooo cool don't cha know ;) is a collectable :-[ ;D Hystrecial! Love it!

Congrats on the great finds! ;D
Bogart :D

Nat,
Great looking ring! I seem to remember those back in the day too. Haven't seen one in a loooooong time. Very cool.
Congrats.

Thanks all for the replies and info about the silver spoon ring..I really worked that field to death to find it. I seem to remember them now come to think of it, they were a popular trend at one time.

I'll be looking for that elusive gold ring in the coming weeks ahead and I'll be sure to show a pic or two to y'all when that happens.

Bogart, I know what you mean about seeing something you had once is now a collectible..I have a Hot Wheels collection and they'll be considered "antiques" in about 10 years..I used to play with them when I was a kid! Boy do I feel old..

Hey - finding a gold ring sounds like a reasonable goal. I am sparse compared to others when it comes to rings - still - l found 2 gold and a few silver.

Hope you get your gldie, good luck.
Looks like a great spot to search.
Congrats on the great finds!

Smiles!

It's always been quite amazing to me how many years some people go treasure hunting and never come up with one..then there are those who find more than one in their MDing life.

Whenever I go ring hunting here in the midwest, I leave the house knowing what I'm out to search for (I get it in my head that today is a "ring" kind of day). If I come home without, I still enjoy the experience, and I'm inspired by what people here post as well as just knowing I need to be in the right place at the right time.

I seem to have success finding rings in older soccer, baseball and football fields where people have played these sports for many years. Once I begin, I actually say to myself, "If I were to throw off a ring, where would it happen?" Then I go to these areas and hunt them to death. Sometimes I'm stubborn enough to stay until I find one or if I get too tired to continue, like I did yesterday. I make kind of a game out of it. It usually works, but when I go out just looking for a ring I know I'm in for a very hard job and a very long wait.

That's why most of the time I just go about hunting in my usual way, and finding a ring is the icing on the cake.

Thanks everyone for the info and encouraging replies.

Hi, I think that alot of the gold ring mystique has to do with were you live, and were you hunt (or were you prefer to hunt). Some of us spend all of the time in the water at fresh and saltwater beaches, while most are strictly landlubbers. Its called, "Playing the Percentages". A detecting buddy of mine prefers to spend most of his time in the water, and he has over 300 gold rings to show for his time spent. I don't do the water thing very often, and only have around 80 gold rings to show for my efforts ( This is from 33 yrs of much searching, mostly on the ocean beaches of Maine). In that time, I have only found 2 or 3 gold rings on dry land, so when you do find one, it will be a Real special time for you.

You will find that gold ring soon, because you are focusing your effort, and spending time in the field. Keep backing off on your discrimination until you get to zero. Go slow and dig everything, the gold will be there. Most of us try to cover as much ground as possible, but it can be just as productive to pick out a small area and "mine it out".
Good Luck & HH ME in WV

That's my thinking exactly..if I don't go to the right places and search long and hard (especially in my geographical location), I probably won't find one anytime soon..I ALWAYS hear stories about people living along the coast and making these spectacular ring finds..lots of wealthy people live near the beaches and spend their money on good quality jewelry..lucky for some of us they get careless or forget to leave the jewelry at home!

We'll keep at it though..thanks for the encouragement and happy hunting!

I have been doing this for 30 years and it took me several years to find my first gold ring. I have had better luck finding gold rings hunting swimming areas. I never found one in the grass where they lay on blankets, only in the water. I think that's because after a while I get tired of digging pull tabs. I guess if you could make yourself stay and dig every single pull tab you would surely get a gold ring after about a thousand pull tabs. I don't make it past 50 or so. I have found several gold rings on old football fields. I wish you the best of luck on the gold rings. I've only found 1 since Christmas and one silver. I have several junk ones but they were a lot of fun to dig up too.

These posts have been food for thought. If a ring is stuck on your finger lick your finger (moisten or wet as in water/swimming) and it comes off easier.Fingers swell and contract with the heat/ cool of the day. Swinging a arm or hand would put force on a ring as in swimming or throwing a ball.I've found a gold ring but never with a Detector, it was in the P-trap of a drain. Now I have a little more info to imagine were and how to look for them.

Hey Nat,nice finds.I spent the first 3 years of this hobby with no gold rings, lots of fakes and a dozen silver but never gold.Bought a water detector and found 2 mens gold rings in the first hour.Thought to myself, what have I been doing all this time. But then the water dry spell came. The next gold ring in the water was followed ten minutes later with another one.So the right conditions and spot produce well in the water.I love land and water detecting, but if you need gold take the plunge.Having said all that I bet you find one this month.
