During the last two weeks, the annoying insects have been
on the decline with all the cool weather so my last three hunts
in the forests and picnic areas along the Des Plaines River
have been very enjoyable. I ended up with 4 silvers, a couple
of old Wheats (1921 & 1923) and a 1902 Indian Head. . . plus,
lots of misc junk and part of a silver bracelet (mower casualty).

Yesterday's forest hunt was interesting. It produced a silver-plated spoon
right off the bat (a little bent but I didn't mind) and then an hour later,
I found a 1906 Canadian silver half-dime (5-Cents) that was almost completely
folded over. When I got home, I went down to the workshop to see if I
could figure out a way to "unfold" this coin without scratching it and then
I recalled a TNet post about "love token coins" that were bent this way
on purpose. . . so I left it the way I found it. . . in the nick of time :P

Does anyone have any thoughts as to the age of the green bottle top?

Thanks for looking,

Nice finds. The bottle part is probably 1880-1900 era. I do not think the Canadian 5 cents is a love token. Too modern and the love token is usually bent in an S shape, not just folded in half. If you decide to bend it back, try heating it, or getting it hot so it is a little easier to bend.

Nice finds W C

Where the heck have you been hunting?  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I think you are right on the Love Token.

The bottle top was that at the place I got mine ?

I've got several there.. My guess is from 30's or early 40's

Your I H looks better then mine.

1921 1923 Where's the 1922?

I think that's a Hutchinson stopper used up until 1915. Nice finds. I think you were right to leave the love token as is.

Isn;t that the same type of bottle top (with metal thing in it) posted by DesPlaines_IL_SilverBob yesterday? Weird. They were next to each other this morning in the list which i show I noticed it.

I was definitely surprised when I found that coin in the middle of the woods. . . especially in the suburbs of Chicago.
I looked at it closely again this morning and the outside appears a lot more worn than the inside where the 1906 date is ???

Congrats on the great finds, Mark!

I agree it's probably a love token. Like you said, it's interesting how the bent coin is worn much more on the outside than the inside - like it was carried in a pocket or purse for some time after it was bent. Too bad these finds can't talk....

I'm going to the Dr. today to see if he can help me kick this bug so I can hunt again. Looks like I'm missing too many opportunities!

I think all the insects traveled to Caldwell last week and stayed, WC! ;D :D
You've been might busy diggin' up some great stuff!! 8) Was a pleasure to see you again. :)

Thanks for the drink, by the way!! Nana

Pic's are Great watercolor....The Love Token is even Better.....Nice Job all around,Congrat's

I'm glad you didn't unfold the half dime, Colors. It's perfect the way it is.

I'd much rather find a holed or folded coin any day of the week. They are unique and somehow personal as opposed to the same ole' coin.
